Question:
Answer:
if you want a duo core, try this http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/c...
the price is $749,the specs are
6.18 lbs, Intel Core Duo 1.60GHz, 1GB, 120GB, 15.4" WXGA
DVD Burner, 256MB ATI RADEON X1400 Video Card
Wireless 802.11b/g, 6-cell Battery, XP Home, 1 yr warranty. There is also a free upgrade to Truelife LCD Screen.
I've see better and cheaper offers, but if you need it now it's decent.
Gateway is cool, good features, good price. $1200 seems a bit high but not much. You should be able to find a decent one for around $600-$1000. Check out Dell too. They're not bad.
for college basicly ANY new laptop will do, but i would HIGHLY recommend either getting Microsoft Office (costs $$) or geting openoffice (free) for college. if you are going to go to college i would recomend getting maybe a Dell for their good Customer support if anything goes wrong with your laptop
look at the new dells... dells make great computers, not to mention notebooks... their price is pretty decent and their customer service is great..
It all depends on what software you will need to run. Word, Excel, and Powerpoint are not cpu intensive. You probable will be fine with a used laptop. The bigger issue will likely be your internet connection.
dell and hp are both pretty economical and reliable overall. go with a desktop if that is an option because they are cheaper. however if that is not an option, a dual core from intel would be the best bet. the AMD ones run hotter and so they dont have as long of life both overall and per battery charge. a slower dual core is still pretty fast. also, if you are concerned about money, look into free antivirus and other software at download.com. for an office suite (like word, excel...) try openoffice it is free. if you find out that you dont like it you can just delete it and buy microsoft office. hope this helps and good luck in college.
I really recommend the MacBook. It's perfectly within your price range for lower end models, and the lower end models aren't even lower end either.
All mac laptops come standard with the following:
AirPort Extreme (802.11a/b/g)
Bluetooth
CD RW/DVD RW burner
Apple Remote (awesome for using with iTunes)
iLife suite (itunes, iphoto, idvd, imovie I think)
Core 2 Duo 1.83GHz
60GB 5400rpm
512MB RAM
Mac O.S. X Tiger (Leopard in 3 months)
$1,049 with student discount.
Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz
80GB 5400rpm
1GB RAM
Mac O.S. X Tiger (Leopard in 3 months)
$1,199 with student discount.
At 5.2 lbs, it's not that light, but it's pretty light and durable. By the way macbooks have a 13.3inch screen. Macbook pros are considerably lighter (relatively) at 5.5 lbs and a 15.4inch widescreen. Plus with a mac you don't have to buy antivirus programs that run you about $40/year.
You'll get upwards of 5 hours of battery life on the macbook, so if you like to work on the couch or something that's great too. And the macbook's screens are georgeous. NeoOffice works like a charm on Apples. And dual-booting is a nice bonus too. But since I switched to mac, I find windows frustrating and counterintuitive. And Apple's customer service is world class.
Give macs a try at your local Apple Store. Whatever you do, DO NOT rush your decision. Consider your options carefully, and choose carefully. Good luck.
