Should I attend an online college?

Question:
Is the workload the same? Will my degree be recognized? Is it hard to motivate yourself?

Answer:
An online degree is fine as long as it is through a school which has a good reputation of quality academics and also has a physical campus. Some larger state schools (Penn State for example) now have online MBA programs. The trend of moving degree programs online is becoming increasingly accepted by both employers and the general academic population.

The workload is comparable to land-based courses for some courses, while other courses demand more. Normal classroom discussions may be facilitated through virtual meetings, chats, or discussion boards and can require more time than in-class discussions. Lectures and assignments are usually provided by instructors for download, so you always have excellent notes to study by. Some schools choose to give exams online in a timed format with an open period (within 24 hours for example) during which you can begin the exam. Other schools require you to have your exams professionally proctored. The online program is very convenient, but the flexibility ultimately depends on the school's policies.

Is it hard to motivate yourself?
Your success with an online degree program depends on your style of learning and ultimately your self-motivation and dedication to performing well. Just as with any quality "traditional" program, you are required to assume responsibility for your learning and performance. If you are a good student and responsible, motivation will not be difficult.

Hope this helps.
yes it is okay to attend an online college and it hqas more flexible time.
Workload is the same...But there will always be a difference between on-line and brick and mortar college. There is something to say about getting up and going somewhere to learn instead of doing it in your living room.
No. Dont go. It's not as recognized as a regular college degree. Drag your behind over to a regular college if you want a better resume.
i dnot think you should because then you won't be able to get the individual attention from the professor if you ever need help for an assignment or something like that. you should apply for a real college and make sure you work hard to get that degree or you could end up working as a janitor in McDonald's.
you won't have the same experience as actually going to college. you might meet the one in college.
Don't waste your money if the university isn't accredited with the US Department of Education. Check the link below and see if the schools you are interested in have some sort of accreditation, or many employers won't accept it. Other than that, it's a great idea. I'm getting my Masters online at American Public University System: American Military University. Great school. Good luck!
I am taking college courses online and for me it works. I have 3 kids I homeschool so its actually a good example to them to see me doing what they have to!

I think it depends on the person. I like not having to get up, get dressed, drive somewhere and be bored in lectures. For me it works because Im home, my computer is always on, I can go to my class in my pj's and not worry about babysitters!LOL!

Just make sure its an accredited school and it will be recognized.
I heard recently (last few months) in the news that though the workload is the same, and it's not really cheaper then the "real" thing, businesses are not accepting the degrees as readily as the "real" thing.
do your research with the proposed on-line education system. there have been numerous examples of fraud when it comes to the so-called institutions. sometimes, even if they are legit, the diploma or degree is not recognized by whatever industry you are striving for.
Your degree will be less recognized by most workplaces, and you may be less motivated, depending on your personality style, because you'll be doing it out of your living room or office. As you're in your own house, the hours are more lenient, but you may not be motivated to follow them and you may procrastinate. The workload and curriculum should be similar, but since you're doing it online, there is a bigger ability to cheat. I think you should attend a regular college, because you can interact better with other students and professors; thus, you will get a better college experience and understand things better than with an online degree. Also, there's a chance that the online college might be a scam. Make sure it's not. Even if it's not, whenever any college advertises online, then it's less likely to be a well-recognized or good college.
I got to online school and I would strongly recommend it. The workload is about the same as a traditional school, and your degree will be recognized the same a a traditional school (provided you pick one of the reputable online schools). I find it easy to motivate myself, and I also get a lot more done each day. Another positive aspect is that you can move more quickly through the course should you choose to do so, allowing you to graduate at an accelerated pace, and you can even mix online classes with traditional ones if you don't want to exclusively take online classes. Overall, I believe that online school is an excellent decision and I think you should try it.
i don't suggest that you attend an online college.there's a big difference.the workload is not the same and not all employers will recognize you degree (that is if your going to apply for a job)because online colleges are not yet proven to be effective.it would be harder to motivate yourself to learn because you'll just stay at home and talk to your PC.there will be no human intervention and because of that, you'll not develop your inter personal skills.you'll not be able to meet new friends.your speaking skills will not be exercised, your communication skills will deteriorate.i'm not pro-online college.i still believe that a university is still the best way to earn a degree.there are many factors to consider in learning and i think an online college will not be able to cater your needs.=)
hi there,
in reference to your question about attending an online college.

In my opinion you would be better if at all possible going to "real university" ie one that has been built of bricks.
Personally i go to univerity part time i find it hard to motivate myself seeing as im only there one day a week. The course whether it is a degree or a diploma is recogniseable if you are going to attend an online course try and find an established university or the advetised open university, because it will give your prospective employer more interest in you. Your degree should be recognised but whether or not your prospective employer deems it to be is a matter soley on their behalf. With regards to the work load it will be the same or there abouts depending on the course you choose if it is a fairly complex degree you can expect to have a larger work load than one which is light and basic.
I hope you find this food for thought.
