Please help graph 2x+y=4?

Question:
how do I graph this using the intercept method? My online college is horrible, I cant learn anything without a teacher.

Answer:
The y intercept of a graph is where it crosses the y axis, or where x=0. Plug in x=0 and you will get y=4.

The x intercept of a graph is where it crosses the x axis, or where y=0. Plug in y=0 and you will get x=2.

Plot those 2 points (0,4) and (2,0) on your graph , and draw a straight line connecting them.
To draw the line using intercepts, do the following.
1) Set x=0 (to find where the line crosses the y-axis)
so 2(0)+y=4
Therefore where the line crosses the y-axis is at the point (0,4)

2) Set y=0 (to find where the line crosses the x-axis)
so 2x+0=4 and x=2
Therefore where the line corsses the x-axis is at the point (2,0)

Now draw a line between these two points.

Another method would be to rearrange the equation into the form y=mx+b where m is the slope of the line and b is the y-intercept.
Using your equation of 2x+y=4, rewrite this into y=mx+b to get y=-2x+4.
This means your y-intercept (b) is 4 (which we confirmed above in step 1) and the slope is -2 meaning the line slopes down from left to right and for every 1 unit in x it loses 2 units in y.
set, x=0 ; 2*0+y=4
y=4
set ,y=0 ;2x+0=4
x=4/2=2
equation straight pass trough by (2,4)
y intercept

x = 0

2x + y = 4

2(0) + y = 4

0 + y = 4

y = 4

The answer is y = 4 when x = 0

- - - - - - - - - --- -

x Intercept

y = 0

2x + y = 4 =

2x + 0 = 4 =

2x ?2 = 4/2=

x = 2

The answer is when y = 0 , x = 2

- - - - - - -- - - -s-
join points (0,4) and (2,0) with a straight line. extend line both directions.

]
so wait your teacher and ask him/her
You want to put this in slope-intercept form:
y=mx+b

On the equation, subtract 2x from both sides:
y=-2x+4

To graph this, just plug in numbers for x to get the y-values and then graph them on paper. It's a straight line graph. Or, you can put this equation in the graphing calculator. I hope this helps and good luck with your online math class. I've taken an online math class before and they aren't any fun either.
