What should I get a degree in?

Question:
I want to go to an online college/university to become a medical transcriptionist. I know there are like 6 month courses I could take, but I don't want to take that route.

Answer:
Call up the hospital in your area and talk to someone that is in that field and get their feedback.

You might want to shadow someone for a day, to see if you really would like this.
Youll never finish unless its something you enjoy. The answer lies within you! Why would you want to work at a job you hate?
judging by your picture I would have to say.. Try Fast food industry with Burger King
Billing and Coding is a job that will never go away.. that sounds like something that will always be there.
HI, I'm going into the medical field myself.
I'm going to become an RN!
I would recommend this anything else is going to be more likely more than 15 hours...
I don't know much about a transcriptioist but I do know medical coding doesn't have many hours here is what my book says:
Medical Coding certificate of proficiency
15 hours
intro to anatomy
medical terminology 1
intro to medical coding
intermediate medical coding
advanced medical coding
Why not go for the gold and become a Registered Nurse? Registered nurses are in high demand and I am quite sure you will be a very compassionate nurse. Please consider Nursing as your profession.
Usually community colleges have certificate programs for medical transcriptionists and medical coding and billing people. You best bet would be to find a list of all the community colleges in your state, and I would think they would have all their programs listed. Since you want to do it online, look into the University of Phoenix...I'm not aware of many other online degree programs. You really are better off taking a couple classes per semester at an actual school to get your qualifications.

If you want to get a DEGREE first, and not a certificate, then you need to go to an actual college or university and get either an Associates or Bachelor's...unless you find a program online. But bottom line...medical transcriptionists get certificates (or, qualifications, if you will), not degrees. So, you really need NO degree for transcriptionist, but you do need to get that certificate. Everyone is talking about nursing--that is a degree.

Not sure if that's what you were asking...but good luck.
