Maybe you should get to know her a little better before you meet her. If you have things in common, then that might make you more comfortable about meeting in person. The more conversations you have with her, the easier you might be able to talk to her face to face. I would suggest swapping pictures too, if you haven't already. That way, there are no surprises to either of you later. Once you know what each other look like, and establish communication, then suggesting to meet will not feel awkward but more like the natural "next step" in the relationship.
You need to be a man, get off of the computer and go out and talk to REAL people.

You surely need to take this forward. Do NOT expect to happen it naturally. However, do NOT tell her straighforward as it runs the risk of breaking out. Just let her know in subtle ways that you like her. Let some time pass. Then at appropriate moment, tell her that you want to be more intimate with her.
The easiest thing in the world to do would be ( if you both have roomates) say that you n your roomate are gonna grab some dinn at the union or some coffee on campus and ask if she wants to come (and bring her roomate obviously.)
perhaps...chat with her online a lil more before planning to meet, and when you meet, make it a short, no longer than 45 minutes kind of meeting..that way you arent stuck if it doesnt work out!

I feel that you should at least date her once maybe from then you won't feel awkward. Come on, you are a man you should'nt be afraid you can't possibly ask her to date you. Try to ask her where she usually hang out and date her there maybe for a drink or catch a movie that the very old way of dating girls. But it works!
