Help with college online classes!?!?
Question:
Answer:
I'm taking 2 online classes this term. Each teacher and school probably has a different way of running things. At mine, we have D2L site thru the school's network. This is where you access the class home page, turn in work, post in discussion forums, and have chats. There will be a syllabus available with date and projects, along with your assigned reading and chat dates.
In my creative writing, the prof posts a couple of times a week giving specific discusion ?'s or exercises that we are to turn in. We also take all quizzes and tests online.
My edu. class is dramatically different. She has us do weekly readings and answer ?'s for discussions--these are in the syllabus. This one does not do tests, but we have weekly time/day specific chats that are mandatory. (8pm every Monday nite) Papers are submitted electronically.
My advise is thus: contact the individual teachers in the courses your interested in and discuss how they run it Also, see if your school has an online "quiz" that will assess your learning/work styles and give you feedback on whether online classes are a good match for you.
Good luck!
I am currently involved with getting my Associate's Degree in Business through online courses. I am sure every college is different on how they conduct their online courses. I know in my college we are given assignments each week and deadlines to have the work completed and turned in through email to the instructor's. The college also deals with threaded conversation with other classmates taking the same course. Basicially this means no one is online at the same time so questions and comments are left and when others come online then they can answer questions or leave comments.Online courses are meant to help people who work or people with families to get a higher education without changing their everyday lives. So people can go online to do their work anytime of the day, there is no set time for online courses. I would suggest to ask your academic advisor about how your community college conducts online courses.
Usually you can do the work at the time most convient for you, however, most of the time there is a deadline for assignments. Also, it depends on the setup for your online class as to how each class is set up. Usually the assignments are posted somewhere under your class sylabuss, or ther may be a seperate link. Most schools will send you information on how to access the stuff you will need for these classes. There is a difference however between online and webased classes in that online classes are usually done totally online, where webased classes a lot of times means you have to attend class at a certain time and location, but you may have in class asginments as well as assignments that you may need to use the web for.
