Online college pricing?

Question:
I'm looking into Rasmussen College Online, and it is $315.00 per credit, and the course I'm looking at takes 96 credits. Is this extremely unreasonable, or is this a common rate?

Answer:
Extremely unreasonable. $315 per quarter credit hour is equal to $470 per semester credit hour. For that much, you could attend Penn State World Campus. Penn State would look better on a resume than Rasmussen. Nothing against the school, it's just not well known. Also, it's a for-profit institution similar to University of Phoenix, Kaplan and Strayer. The 96 credit hour associates at Rasmussen will cost over $30,000.

Peru State University, a state school in Nevada, is regionally accredited and is $130 per semester credit hour. http://www.peru.edu/offuttafb/degreeprog...
A 60 semester hour associates will cost $7,800 in tuition. An estimate of books at $150 per class (20 - three semester hour classes) will be $3,000. Total cost: $10,800

Fort Hays State University, a state school in Kansas, is regionally accredited and is $134 per semester credit hour.

Negligible difference in cost from Peru

University of Wyoming, a state school in Wyoming (duh :) ), is regionally accredited, business program is accredited by AACSB and is $137 per semester credit hour.
Another negligible difference in cost from Peru.

American Public University, a regionally accredited online school, is $250 per semester credit hour and includes books.
APU tuition will cost $15,000.

Penn State World Campus, probably one of the best school names for an online degree. Cost is high at $400 per credit hour. However, the Penn State degree will still only cost you $24,000 plus books. That is still less than Rasmussen.

If you continue your search for an online school. Always make certain it is accredited. Preferrably by a regional accrediting agency. You can check on accreditation for any U.S. school by searching the CHEA database. http://www.chea.org/search/search.asp...

Good luck,
that must be a private college.
look into a public colleges.
in NYC community college require $170 per credit
and 4 year pay $210.
High. You can find a good bit better.

Of course, I can't find where Rasmussen offers a Bachelors online, only Associates of Applied Science degrees.

Associates are usually 60 semester hours... Bachelors are usually 120... so. 96 hours for a program?

On the Quarter System, Associates would be 90 hours, and Bachelors usually 180. I have to ask... Is that on the Quarter System to be a 96 hours program? If it is, the price is OUTRAGEOUS. Edit your post, tell us what you want a degree in, and I'm absolutely confident we can knock that price out of the water.

ETA to the below poster: Thomas Edison doesn't teach a TON of courses themselves. They specialize in taking credits you have from here, there, and everywhere, banking them, and adding some to them to make a Bachelors. There are only a few degrees you can complete entirely from scratch through them.

If all you need right now is an Associates... or even to prepare you to enter an online Bachelors, I'd point you here instead of Thomas Edison: http://www.clovis.edu/ecampus/index.htm...
Clovis Community College in New Mexico offers several online Associates... at the amazing price of 54$ a semester hour. It's the cheapest way to start a college career online I've ever seen.
You should look into Thomas edison state college. They have associate and bachelor degrees completely online. Full time student rate is about $5,900 anually for up to 36 credits. The tuition drops anually from this starting rate they are regionally accredited. I have been researching online degrees for months and I cannot find anything cheaper than Thomas Edison. The school has a good reputation as far as education quality for distance learners.
