Earning an IT degree online?

Question:
I'm not sure if it's ok to do so, but a majority of people think its ok. I was looking to get a bachelors degree majoring in network security. I found an online school called Western Governors University. Western Governors University is regionally accredited by four institutions, Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities, Northwest Association of Schools and of Colleges and Universities Commission on Colleges and Universities, North Central Association of Colleges and Schools of Higher Learning Commission, which is four of the major accrediting commissions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. The reason why I want to do it online is because I found no program around my area that teaches network security. If you have any suggestions please feel free to respond.

Answer:
Western Governors University is regionally accredited. Since the other people didn't know this, you can check accreditation on any school in the U.S. at the CHEA (Council for Higher Education Accreditation) website. If the school is acceptable to the US Department of Education, it will be listed in their database.

WGU is considered a pretty good school. The only downside is they charge a flat rate tuition for six months. It doesn't matter if you only take one class or four classes, you pay the same price.
I would check this out a little further because a site can make it look like they are approved. Follow through with phone calls to the accrediting universities the site is using.
Oh yes. I eagerly await all those recent online graduates so that I can begin the hiring process just as soon as possible. I realize that it is extremely unlikely that anyone else would have completed the course for them.

You might want to do more research about the accreditation. For example go to their websites to see if its a real accreditation and see if the school is a member. I go to a college that offers an online degree. I had to do many research to finally find this school. What I know for sure is that the accreditation from The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) is a real one. I don't know about the rest.
Western Gorvernors is a good university and it is accredited by the accrediting agencies that are recognized by the US Government. (Check out http://distancelearningdegree.com/...
for more info.) I understand that this university was founded by the governors of several states in order to bring down the costs of an online education.
