Problem with online teacher being unfair?

Question:
Problem with online teacher being unfair?
I am taking an online class at the local junior college. One of her e-mails said to mail book report and research paper by april the 17th, I mailed on day shiping on april 17th a tuesday. Later on she said she e-mailed me saying that she got it on thursday and that it was late and I was lucky she was just going to deduct points. I scaned my reciept from the post office and her e-mail saying to mail it in by the 17th and e-mailed it all to her. She sent me a simple e-mail by saying Okay. Now she is telling me that she only got the book report and I'm going to make a fifty. I think she I just dong it because I corrected her or maybe because she believes I should get points off. I know I mailed it all in, because I don't just double check I checked to make sure it was all there numerous times and I don't have the research paper anywhere in my house. I e-mailed her telling her she may have misplaced it or thrown it away since she said she doent keep the envilovpes. What can I do.

Answer:
For starters, I feel your pain. I got my B.S. online and I know what I pain in the but technology can be...meaning not having a f2f class.

I think that you may have waited too long to try to resolve all of this. It is now May 1, several days, even weeks since the due date. But, that is not to say that it still isn't worth trying to resolve all of this.

My first suggestion would be to actually call the teacher on the phone. I hope she gave you a number at the start of class. Explain to her that you understand the situation from her side, but you would like a chance to explain things from you end. Try very hard not to get defensive. If you simply explain that you believe that has been some confusion, maybe your teacher will agree to re-evaluate the sitatuion. Tell you that you are even willing to accept having point deducted, but that you would still like for her to consider looking at the entire project. Just try to be reasonable. Don't give up too much to start with.

If you still don't get anywhere and you feel like you need to more forward, you can always make an appointment with the dean of students or the head of the department this class falls under. Take copies of everything to the meeting with you. Explain the situation, to include the fact that you were active in the class all semester and never turned other assignments in later.

Just keep a cool head. Most teachers aren't out to get you. Take a lesson from this and remember to always send your stuff in early and maybe even email a copy just to be safe.

Good luck!
Sounds like a little misunderstanding here. Usually, when people say they want things mailed in by the 15th, they don't mean they want it put in the mail on the 15th, they mean they want to receive it by the 15th. Which usually means mailing it on the 13th or 14th.
As an example, if your taxes are to be in by the 15th of April, the government doesn't give two hoots when you mailed it, as long as it is in their hands by April 15. If not, you are penalized and have to pay a late return impost.
