Can someone give me simple step by step instruction for solving a quadratic equation by factoring?
Question:
Answer:
what you do is you set the equation equal to zero so for example x^2+3x+2=0. then you factor so (x+2)(x+1)=0 and then you make it so that x+2=0 and x+1=0 so you combine like terms so that x= -2 and x= -1 so your solution set is
x={-2,-1} i hope this helps

Go to this website, alot of good information:

step 1 read
step 2 do.
Purplemath.com has very helpful information on college math/ beginning algebra problems.
let the equation be:ax^2+bx+c=0.
if possible,transform the expression on the left into two linear factors.Put each factor =0 and solve each, getting the two roots.If you donot knowhow to factorize or the expression on the left hand side canot be factorized, then you can use the quadratic equation formula for the roots, this is always possible, even if the roots are not real( arecomplex.)
its a simple concept if you REALLY learned it to UNDERSTAND it not just to REMEMBER it in high school. but trying to explain it is somewhat of a difficult thing. i did try to find a tutoring sight for you though. try it and see if you can get it. if not try to find out if your school has a tutoring program or get into a study group. its really youre best bet as things like this are far more easily learned while you can have a person in front of you explaining it and showing it on paper. trust me. talk to someone if the site doesnt help you.

ax^2+bx+c = 0
a(x^2+b/a. x + c/a) = 0
x^2 + 2.(b/2a) . x + c/a +(b^2/(2a)^2) - (b^2/(2a)^2) = 0
x^2 + 2. (b/2a) .x + b^2/(2a)^2 = b^2/4a^2 - c/a
(x+b/2a)^2 = (b^2-4ac)/4a^2
.......______
x+b/2a = +-V(b^2-4ac) / 2a
so,.._______
x = (+-V(b^2-4ac) / 2a) - b/2a
so,..._______
x = -b +- V(b^2-4ac)
..-----------------------
.....2a
and......... ________ ,
pls know ^ as a power, V as a square root.
