What are some people's thoughts on online colleges vs. traditional colleges?
Question:
Answer:
The real question is: what do potential employers in your atea of interest think of online colleges? and, if applicable, What do graduate and professional schools think of online colleges?
I think if your going for an mba or something like that its ok. For an undergrad degree, I think you need the classroom. Ive heard to many stories from unemployed alumni from online programs to trust them.
Online colleges are great if they are offered by a regular university. Never go to a college that is strictly online and check out the accreditation of any college you visit. FYI, stay away from For-Profit colleges. You will know which ones because they are the ones that advertise heavily everywhere on the internet and TV. Also, do community colleges first because you can save tons of money on gen ed courses. Also, be sure the college you select "online" is not-for-profit also, some college are not-for-profit but have for-profit online components (Drexel). You can find out by simply asking the college or looking at wikipedia.
Tons of colleges are offering new online courses everyday. I'm sure they can do so only because the demand of online courses is on a rise. You can find some online courses in information technology at the on this website.

In my experience, the school's career placement office has the biggest impact on a student's prospects in the job market after graduation.
Schools like Univ. of Phoenix, ITT Tech, Walden, etc. invest millions in creating a good image for the schools so that students have great job prospects afterwards.
I say find out for yourself. Get info from ACCREDITED online schools, find out who what their career offices are like, then decide.
Check out http://tinyurl.com/222c73 and you can get info from the top online schools--only ACCREDITED ones that are considered the "Ivy League" of online universities.
Good luck!
