Does anyone know which college course I should take to be an author?

Question:
I want to be an author when I finish online college, but I have no specific idea on which course I should take. Does anyone have a course for authors in online colleges?

Answer:
Creative writing (usually part of the English curriculum) would obviously be useful. In addition, depending upon what you plan to write about, you will need coursework on things which might inform your writing; for example, having a knowledge of history, or politics, or science would allow you to develop stories in historical settings or would provide themes or help you with character development once you start writing. The more you know, the more you will have to write about.
Something that improves your writing skills. Some sort of creative writing skills class would be good. YOu need to give us more information. For example what kind of writing classes are available.

Wow, you realize that being an author doesn't require any such courses right? You could be a high school drop out and an author.

There are such things as creative writing programs, but let me tell you a little something about those. I used to be in one. It required a portfollio, so I stayed up one night and wrote 15 page. I got in. You'd have to be a retard not to.

Well, we'd listen to these whacked out poets and writers talk about their writing and it really wasn't very interesting. Probably because while these writers had some local or national prestige, I simply wasn't impressed. Their works did nothing for me.

Then we'd get these assignments and we'd have to critique eachothers work. Well, it was awful reading through a lot of that crap. The only worthwhile part of the class was that a lot of people in there didn't realize it when I was making fun of them. A little slow on the uptake? Yep! And I got my copy fee back when I dropped the class, so I could go out drinking.

I dropped the class when they made it a requirement to go to a local coffee house and read your work. Yea, no. That made the easiest A in the world, not fun anymore. I found no need to publicly embarass myself.

Anyway, the better writers I met in college, were taking courses that interested them. Whether it be history or biochemistry, it didn't matter. Take what you like. You don't need to take 'writing for idiots' the creative writing program to be published.
