College degrees can be earned many different ways, but there really isn't a lot of respect out there in the business world for anyone with online degrees. If you took a few online courses from a legitimate college, that's okay. Many universities do that to help with a lack of classroom space. However, if you did an entire degree online, there are many things to consider. Most employers have already realized that some degree holders have received their degrees without spending any debate time in the classroom learning directly from the professor. An employer wants to hire someone who not only knows the book material and can regurgitate it, but who also has learned the little details from time in class. Your peers have valuable information to share, your professor will often veer away from book work to discuss important issues and topics not covered in the material, and your ability to vocalize in front of a group are all essential qualities to learn in college. By doing an online course, you're denying yourself the opportunity to really grow and become a leader. I know how nice an online course sounds, I hate being in large groups or standing in front of people, but sometimes you have to do things that are uncomfortable to make yourself better. And I just finished graduate school while working full-time and raising two very active children. So I know that you can find a way to head to the school if it's in anyway a possibility.
I think getting your degree is a fabulous quest, and I don't mean to discourage you. I know some people cannot see how they can make it to a classroom. I just want to be sure that you understand the incredible value of physically sitting in the classroom. One other thing, NETWORKING! The face to face time with people in the industry is absolutely great. You'll never have better opportunities to shake hands and talk directly with people who can help you make a name for yourself in the industry. College professors know many of the people you want to know, and they can be a lifesaver for you.
