What do u think about online colleges?

I did not go to college, but my oldest son will be this Fall. I think online college degrees are kinda the joke of degrees. People/employers don't take them seriously and think they were easy to get or gotten in some hokey manner.
I have taken many on-line courses but not from a solely on-line college. In other words, many universities (onces with real campuses and real classrooms) also offer on-line courses. I would not take a course from a purely on-line college because I would not be sure of their reputation. The courses I've taken have been offered by colleges in my state's university system. And they are great. As long as you have your computer with you, you can move your classroom anywhere. I've gone on vacation and business trips, where I've brought my computer with me to keep up with my classes. Driving thru traffic to catch a 9AM class vs. turn on my computer any time of the day I have time to.
for a degree in fashion merchandising you actually need to be in the classroom at a design school. Yes you can get the same quality education online, but you will miss the most important aspect of that training with is NETWORKS. In the fashion industry its not what you know but who you know. That could make the difference between an entry level job at Gap and and entry Level job at Versace. I teach Fashion at a college if i can be any assistance to you hit me up.
I've had the best experience with taking online classes from a traditional school, rather than taking classes from an online-only college. You'll also have better luck getting jobs at places that actually look at where your degree is from.
