College help?

Question:
1. When should you start applying to college?
2. Can you get college applications online and where?
3. How and where do you get scholarships?
4. Anyone here go to UCLA or Stanford? If so, did you like it, do you have tips, was it easy to get in, any good/bad aspects of them?

Help me please!

that is the website link for prospective students at UCLA

Like the earlier posters, you need to check with each school you are applying to and find out their particulars on dates. If you plan to apply for financial aid, you will have to complete a FAFSA before you will be considered. That will require having your and your parents income taxes completed. So you would file your FAFSA early next year for the school year 2008-2009.

For interesting scholarship opportunities, register on fastweb.com. They list loads of scholarships offered by different organizations. Some require essays, some are based on your involvement in certain groups, others are just fun [like the Cosmogirl one].

If you think you have a shot at academic scholarships, the colleges you apply to will be examining your GPA, test scores [SAT, ACT] and course record. Some ask that you come to campus for an interview. You should be able to find out information on what scholarships each school has available online as well.

Good luck in your college plans.
1. Early. If you are hoping for scholarships or other such opportunities (and are looking to start in the fall), you should apply around the December beforehand. If you want regular registration, it's usually mid-spring. Deadlines will be posted on college web sites and on applications. Earlier applications are usually considered before late ones, so don't put it off.

2. Yes. Go to the web site for the college you are interested in, and they will have applications there. You often have the choice between asking them to mail you one, and printing one off the site.

3. Scholarships are everywhere. Talk to your guidance counselor to get started. A great site to find scholarships is fastweb.com - it's free to sign up and after you answer a few questions, it will give you a long list of scholarships you are qualified for. Many will require you to write essays - most people skip right over those because they don't want to do the work, which means fewer people are applying for them. The fewer people apply for a scholarship, the more likely you are to get it, so put in the extra effort and go for it!

4. I did not go to either of those schools (I went to URI, which is a FANTASTIC school, especially for engineering, pharmacy, and natural science). Whatever you do, make sure to apply to more than one school. Even if you think you are a shoe-in, there's always a chance you'll get rejected, and you'll want to have backups just in case.

Good luck with college!
Good grief- you haven't been given any counseling at all! I work in a high school counseling office and our counselors make sure all our students know this information.

1) You need to apply for college as soon as the application window opens. For fall 2007, it's way too late. For fall 2008, it starts around October or November - every college is different. (Junior colleges usually accept apps at any time.)

2) Most colleges require you to apply online - just type the name of the college into the search bar and look for "future students" or "prospective students" or "admissions."

3) Check with your guidance counselor about scholarships. There are many websites also, but if you're at a public high school, they should have all the information in the counseling office - that's what they are there for. Our senior classes always win hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships (collectively), but the counselors get the info and inform the students so they can apply.

4. UCLA and Stanford are two of the foremost universities in our state. Students from all over the world try to get in. No one worries "if they will like it." It is very, very, very hard to get in, and very expensive. Attending one of these universities is the most prestigious thing you could write on a resume. If you can get in, go for it.

And since you don't seem to know much about going to college, you may not have prepared adequately. If not, don't be discouraged. You can also consider the many wonderful opportunities there are in California for community colleges. They are less expensive and you can transfer to a four year college (like Stanford or UCLA) later.

Good luck to you!
1. I think you should start applying as soon as possible. It doesnt hurt to apply sooner.

2. Pretty much all applications are online. You will find them on the school's website and its usually under apply or admissions.

3. If you want scholarships, you have to look for them. Apply to all of the ones that you qualify for.

4. Sorry, I dont go to Stanford or UCLA so I cant answer this.
Ideally, your applications should be in by Thanksgiving, although officially most schools have their deadlines in January. Some schools have rolling admissions--they admit anyone they deem qualified, until the class is full. Obviously, you want to get those in as early as possible as well.

Application for UCs:
http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/ad...
You can apply for all the UCs with one application (but you have to pay for each), so it's worth it to apply to more than just UCLA.

Stanford app will be here:

Scholarship information for the school's scholarships is readily available on the schools' web sites. Additionally, FastWeb.com is a place that lists other, outside scholarships. You will also fill out a financial aid form, which is different from scholarships, but may help fund your education.

Both schools you've chosen have excellent reputations, but they are both VERY difficult to get into--UCLA not as much as Stanford, but everything is so up in the air these days. A lot of people who thought they'd be a cinch for UCLA were not admitted last year. There are just too many people for too few spots. Stanford regularly turns away the best students in the country. Keep your options open and find other schools you'd be happy at.

Good luck.
