Degree in Computing...? What is it all about?

Question:
Hello!

I'm planning to pursue my studies next month, but as of now, I'm quite blur on which course I should stick with...

There's this college A, which offers degree in computing and another one, let's say college B, which offers degree in information technology.

Is degree in computing something about computer science, where as we would be learning all those stuffs about programming, VB, C, C++, JAVA and etc etc..?

Is it better comparable with degree in IT?

Thanx in advance! =)

Answer:
They could potentially be the same, or they could be quite different. Your best bet would be to check with both colleges to see what the different courses are which lead to each degree.

Potentially, a degree in Computing could be like a degree in computer science, which could lead you into the theory behind computing. It could also be a more practical thing which teaches you various computing languages, styles, programming tips, etc. Or it could simply be a slightly different name for Information Technology.

To my mind, Information Technology would most likely avoid getting into programming, and would focus more on how to use various programs (such as spreadsheets, word processors, databases, etc) in a business environment.

Again, your best bet would be to look at the course offerings from both colleges to see what the courses are which comprise the degrees.

Hope this helps.
