Communtiy College (would this work)?

Question:
The community college that I want to attend is far away from my home, It offers online BlackBoard Coarses in some areas I need such as basic englishes and maths, Can I take as many coarses as I want to online towards my degree and does Financial aid cover cost of classes and Materials?

Answer:
That sounds like it might work for you, but you might want to check with the Community College what the graduation requirements are for your major. Most Junior Colleges and Universities that I know of in the United States have a limit on the number of on-line or other non-conventional courses/units that can be applied towards a degree -- in most cases its 25% of less of the total overall units required to graduate -- they want you to take traditional classes for the majority of your education.

Unless its a purely on-line school (or degree program) you will probably have to do the majority of your work in a traditional class, but at least you can get a portion of your work done from home. With careful planning and patience you can work out an academic plan to complete your degree/program.

Also, as a caveat, you should be aware if you are planning on switching schools at some point most colleges and universities will not accept on-line course units as transfers, so you'd have to do them all over again.
It is possible to take as many courses online if you want. Tha tis what I did. Just be careful and know when certain assignments are due because college does not allow make-up work. Online classes require self-discipline. Financial aid does cover the cost of the classes and the materials. Usually financial aid covers tuition, books, housing/food, and transportation in college. In community college only tuition and books are covered. Good luck. Hopes this helps.
I am an Academic Advisor at a large university.

You will definitely want to check with an academic advisor at the community college before registering for too many online courses. Every college has different regulations about how many credits you are allowed to take online. It may also depend on the program you are in (if you are working toward a certain associate's degree).

An advisor will be able to tell you what courses you can take online. You have good questions, don't be afraid to call or visit an advisor at your campus. It's their job to help you.

Another consideration is how well you will perform in the courses. Think about what kind of learner you are. Are you able to grasp concepts pretty well on your own or do you tend to need to hear it explained, ask clarifying questions, etc. An online course may not be best for your grade point average. If you think you will be fine learning on your own (and motivating yourself to do the work) I would still not advise you to take an online class in a subject that you struggled with in high school.

Example: If math is not your best subject, do NOT take an online course in it. You will want all the help you can get.

Regarding financial aid, it depends on what type of aid and how much you are awarded. Make sure you fill out a FAFSA with the federal government which you can do online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/index.htm...

Eventually you will get a statement telling you how much aid you have been awarded.
Don't forget to talk to the folks at the financial aid office. They can let you know if there are other local scholarships or aid you can apply for.
