Are online universities, like University of Phoenix and Capella, as prestigious as regular 4 year colleges?
Question:
Answer:
No.
If you want a Master's, and need to do an online program, look at ones that are offered by brick and mortar schools. Well respected Business Schools DO offer online MBAs at considerable savings over University of Phoenix (which is a publically traded, for-profit corporation). Duke, Indiana, and a whole host of AACSB accredited schools offer these degrees online. If your in-state school offers an MBA through distance education, you can potentially save tens of thousands of dollars. Plus, your resume won't automatically be tossed because they see University of Phoenix on it.
If the decision is between Phoenix and Capella - go with Capella. It does have a better rep. However, the best looking MBA is one that you took in person, even part time during the evenings. Not all 4 year MBA programs require experience - and some will count a couple internships as experience. Plus, their career placement offices will help you find a job months before you even graduate.
YES, I JUST GRADUATED FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX AND AM LOOKING FOR A NEW JOB. ALL THE COMPANIES THAT NOTICED THAT I WENT TO AN ONLINE SCHOOL ARE IMPRESSED BECAUSE IT SHOWS THAT I AM DEDICATED AND CAN MULTI-TASK, SINCE I WENT TO SCHOOL AND WORKED FULL TIME. I WOULD SAY DO IT BECAUSE YOU NOT ONLY GET YOUR MASTERS BUT YOU WILL ALSO SEE THE MONEY COMING IN FROM YOUR JOB AND MANY COMPANIES WILL PAY FOR YOUR SCHOOLING.
You have to be careful looking for on line degree. Only few accredited universities may help in your future career on line. Otherwise, you will put that diploma to your wall :)
