Has anyone ever taken an online financial accounting class for college?
Question:
Answer:
I took the second semester of financial accounting online (at most schools they break it up into 2 semesters). I do think that it would have been easier in the classroom. I still pulled a B in the class but it could have been a bit higher. I wouldn't recommend taking it online because I usually don't learn as much from online classes as I do in the classroom and accounting can be a very tedious subject and it helps to have others around you to maybe explain what you might not understand. good luck.
I am a huge fan of online classes. I've taken many over the last few semesters and absolutely love the flexibility. I took both financial and managerial accounting online and received A's. It is difficult without the hands on instruction, but if you are disciplined and prepared to teach yourself through your texts and online aids, it will be perfectly fine! My online classes had sections where you were able to confer with other students for help, or even with the teacher. When I had a question, I turned to them for help.
It is going to be more difficult than traditional classes, I can promise you that. There is no one to stand before you and lay out the answer in three dimensions. As long as you are the type that is able to comprehend through reading, rather than seeing and doing, you shouldn't have a problem.
I have taken one online and in class, and I have to say classroom worked a lot better for me because I was able to ask questions if I didn't understand the material vs online it's just reading and testing, and if I didn't understand it entirely there was no one to go to (very limited access to teacher only thru email, and no other students to ask either!) For me a class with concepts as challenging as accounting can sometimes be I need to be able to clarify with someon.
I have also taken what is called a "hybrid course" which met on Mondays for 2 hours and we were given assignments and reviewed old assignments, and given our tests in class. The rest of the week (Tues-the following Mon) we had online material to read and do exercises, and quizzes and if we had questions we could ask during that 2 hour class period.
The hybrid course was a little better than the strictly online but overall I would prefer class lecture.
FYI Try going to the website www.accountingcoach.com it's free accounting material in just about every accounting aspect and try there drills, and exams. If you can test with reading their material and taking their tests and be ok with just online just imagine it to be maybe twice as difficult
