Cheating an Online College?

Question:
What would you do if you knew someone who was taking classes from an online college but they are cheating? They are paying someone else to do their homework, and they are really getting good grades. Would you contact the college and turn them in?
No it is none of your business. Let them deal with the conseuences of cheating. You have more important things in life to think about. They will get caught sometime in their life for cheating.
What horrible advice from hehmommy04 - people like that are a disgrace to themselves and their communities. Why should one student not have to work hard while others do.

I would go the person and tell them to stop it or you will report them - I do think you owe a person that much. But then I have no problem with a person contacting the college, provided you have first-hand evidence. The hard part will be the college acting without definitive proof.

This would not be an easy thing to do, and though I know what I would now as a professor and at age 36, I am not sure I would have done the same as a college student some 15 years ago.

Good luck with your decision.
Absolutely. If you were in a class with someone and you knew they were cheating on their homework, paying someone else to do it, wouldn't you go to the teacher and let him/her know? It's about academic honesty. It's not only unfair to the other students in the class, who may be graded on the curve, but it's unfair to the student who is cheating--they are not getting the skills they will need for their future career nor are they exhibiting the qualities of a leader that a college degree will prepare them for. How would you like to work for someone that you knew had cheated their way through college? Would you trust them? Would you respect them?

FYI--I am enrolled in an online school. I want my degree to be honored and respected. People who would cheat like this give online education a bad name, and make it hard for those of us who are honestly working hard to be given credit for having a credible degree. It's sad that so many people have this perception of online schools, because cheating is not limited to online schools--students in traditional schools hire people to do their homework and write their term papers as well. A cheater is going to cheat in any venue. Sad, but true.
