How does the online university credit hour system work?

Question:
I have been researching the more popular online universities and have come upon some information that is making my head spin. There are two universities that I've looked at (DeVry and Phoenix) that offer a bachelors degree in 120 credit hours. Four other online colleges offer the same degree program except it will take 180 credits. I don't understand this large jump in numbers. What's the difference and in the end which would be more cost efficient?

Answer:
the difference is between semester hours and quarter hours. A quarter hour is 1.5*semester hours. you will be taking the same amount of classes, just will see the number of credits each are worth are different. as for cost, the type of credits shouldn't matter.
