Should I continue with my Bachelor's (MIS) or first get CCNA/MCSE?
Question:
I'm starting to think I should either work on the certs full time and pursue the Bachelors part time or complete the certs first then the Bachelors IF I need to. I know experience is key, so I feel that it would be better for me to get some practical knowledge (thru cert programs) first so I can get a job somewhere sooner rather than waiting till I'm done with school.
What is best? How far will general associates and a couple certs getme?
Answer:
This is an excellent question! I have a good friend pondering this exact situation. He has just transferred to a University after earning his AS degree at a community college. His major for the Bachelor's is now Computer Science, however most of his colleagues do not have a degree but have tons of "hands-on" experience and all the required certificates (MSCE...etc.) When he graduates, he will have the degree, but no experience. It's a tough decision. Some companies ONLY hire degree'd applicants, some ONLY want experienced and certified. I would suggest contacting a few companies that interest you to find out what their hiring requirements are. Good luck. Be well.
This is too easy for me, I have a bachelors degree in I.T and no certification and believe me it is hard as heck to get a job in the field now without a certification. Do your self a favor get the certification and/or the experience NOW, because the degree really don't guarantee the job without the experience to back it up.
You have a 60% more chance of getting a job with an AS and a cert and limited experience, than with a bachelor degree alone.
Start with the MCSE if you must the CCNA takes a lot of preperation but the bennifits are huge, employers with put your resume on top when certifited. Persue your bacjelors part time.but get it done also.
