What are the best online colleges and most respected online degrees?
Question:
Answer:
We're one of the largest employers in the state and we consider all qualified candidates holding regionally accredited degrees.
Regardless of delivery method (on ground, online, hybrid), a higher ed INSTITUTION in the US can have 3 institutional accreditation statuses.
1. Regionally accredited - the highest and most useful.
2. Nationally accredited - real, but not as recognized or useful. Yes it is less than regional accreditation, which isn't intuitive.
3. Unaccredited

Penn State, Harvard have online programs, as well as many lesser known schools. I would look at www.degreeinfo.com for a good list.
Don't get an on-line degree. None of them are well respected in the business world and employers go out of their way to not hire those with on-line degrees. You get A's for sending a paper with your name on it. Go to a regular college if you can. For about the same price as an on-line college you can go to a community college and get an education that employers will respect.
I recommend the University of Phoenix. I went to a traditional college, but got my MBA from University of Phoenix. My wife also took the same educational route.
The classes are actaully quite demanding. In my MBA classes we had one individual paper, one team paper (you do team work via online chat rooms, IM or any other way to communicate), required readings and discussion questions each week. As far as the first poster mentioning you get an A for sending in a paper with your name on it, that is not at all true. I went though the program with people and then one day they disappeared, it was becasue they failed out. I also have a cousin who teaches law at University of Phoenix and he talks about how he grades students just as tough as a traditional college.
What is great about University of Phoenix is that you can go online or if you live in an area where they have a campus you can take a class on campus.
My wife switched jobs after she graduated, and got a job with a Big Four Accounting firm, where hiring is pretty selective. Most employers value it the same as any other degree. I also got a job no problem.
Some of the top colleges and universites now offer online programs, there is nothing at all wrong with them. I think they have been around long enough now that employers see the quality being turned out from the programs.
