What does this mean in colleges?
Question:
What is the difference between the two? Please, give details, thanks.
Do colleges offer thesis and non-thesis for undergraduate programs?
Answer:
Non-thesis - basically do a literature review.
Thesis - you do original research.
These options are only for graduate students (Masters or PhD students).
Undergraduates typically have a Senior Project or Senior Seminar or even an internship. It depends on the program and the school.
Thesis programs require a thesis, which will be scrutinized by faculty before a Master's Degree is awarded.
Non-Thesis programs do not require you to write a thesis.
If I am not mistaken, thesis programs are usually Science driven programs such as Psychology, Biology, Chemistry, etc.
Master of Arts programs are usually non-Thesis programs.
I have not seen an undergrad program that has required a thesis...although there may be some classes inside of that program that do.
the above responder gave an excellet answer in regrads to master degree programs. I have seen schools where a thesis was required to graduate. Some call it a senior project and often the amount of research, paper writing, and presentation amounts to a "thesis" at the undergrad level. I have only seen it done at small private liberal arts colleges, probably because there are not that many graduates to review compared to a large univeristy.
