Our son went to James Madison and they can go to college with the HS diploma from there. He doesn't recommend it though cause they are sorta scattered if anything goes wrong. He did however, learn alot and do well there.
Good luck to your son!
I didn't go through an online homeschool. Mine was a correspondence school called American School. It was fully accredited and I got an actual HS diploma not a GED. I have never had any problems getting into a job or into college because of it. In fact I just graduated from college in May.
Homeschooling was both good and bad. If your son is very self-disciplined a homeschool program could be good for him. If not it will be very difficult. I agree with the other poster who said it may diminish his social skills, but that can be avoided and/or overcome. Homeschooling provided several benefits, at least for me. First, was that I already had problems with other students in a public school and this allowed me to do my work in peace. Second, it taught me to be very independent and to figure things out on my own. Finally, the curriculum was simply better than anything I would have gotten in the public school system I was going to.
These are some of the issues that you should talk to your son about before deciding to go the homeschool route. One final very important issue is to make sure the school is accredited by the proper government authorities. Otherwise it will be pretty worthless if an employer ever looks it up.
I received my high school diploma by taking online distance learning classes from BYU, which living thousand of miles away. Personally, if I were to look at someone's resume and see that they graduated from onlineghighschool.com I would probably think it was a joke. Maybe your son should look at some programs through local/distance colleges programs that offer high school diploma programs through online classes.
