How can I be more consistent (or disciplined) in my day to day achievements?
Question:
1. I practice for competetive latin dance.
2. I work out to have enough strength to dance.
3. I have a job to pay for dance.
4. I am taking an online college class this summer.
I don't feel like I'm up to par. I sometimes skip waking up in the mornings to practice and work out. I have difficulty focusing on my online class. Work is mentally draining. At least I eat in a health conscious manner, but every now and then I splurge on french fries and chocolate.
I'm not sure if anyone else has a similar life like I do. It would be comforting to know if anyone out there has a similar situation like I do and how they're coping, whether it be in a different sport or hobby.
Answer:
For now on try to get at least eight hours of sleep. Don't stay up for anything unless it is necessary for your work and goals (just save all that fun for the weekend). Here's something that might help but you must do it and the best way start is to get good sleep every night.
-Set your alarm to get up as if you're going straight to work. Always get up at that time and jump straight into the shower.
-Dress in something classy to give yourself a dynamic feeling
-Have breakfast and do your workouts
Those workouts are your way to get all that "mentally draining" stuff out of you. Don't put those problems away and think that you'll deal with it later. Face them in your mind and imagine it evaporating or dissolving. Let yourself go with a little righteous anger and realize and know that you will not let anything bring you down. Don't give into anything. You are powerful! Embrace it! Let that fire out.
At times you will have to take deep breathes in through your nose and out your mouth so practice it and do it. Be serious about this breathing. 2 seconds in, 5 seconds out with control. Learning how to focus your will is not impossible so learn how to breathe better and that will help you with your functions. Incorporate it into everything.
You're doing some good things so keep it going. Good luck! I do fitness/exercise all the time so feel free to email me for any advice/questions.
The best thing you can do is set goals. Set goals that apply not only to your actions but to your personality...
Its not the coping or whatnot, you just need more determination. How serious are you about what you are doing? Not just a lack of willpower, but where's your motivation for it? You get what you put it in, you skip on your practices and you don't focus on the things you have to do, it'll show later in your lack of performance. Of course you're going to be hurting, tired, mentally and physically drained...but keep in mind your reasons in doing what you are doing! Remind yourself of why you want to do this. Do you really want to half-*** it only to come back later and say I could have done more? Working hard to achieve your goal should be reinforcing your efforts to try your best and not slack off or quit. Competitive Latin Dance isn't something easy, I know because I tried learning it. But obviously its something you're passionate about because you're trying to do this competitively. So just keep that in mind and no matter how dreadful you feel or how sore your body and mind might be, remember the rewards that come with completing your set goals and achievements.
