If you needed to take a college chemistry course would you do it online?
Question:
Answer:
If you're only concerned with credit hours and you have good study skills, it's probably ok.
If you really want to gain something beyond that, regardless of your major, then no. You need to take a class with a lab component so that you can experience, first hand, chemistry and understand the scientific concepts the way they were meant to be understood ... in a lab.
The need part is hard to answer because if you really need to then, well, you need to. However, I would highly recommend taking a chemistry class in person, I promise. You will be glad you did. Particularly chemistry. On another note, however, if you are a chemistry wiz and all you have to take is a basic (not for majors) chemistry course then go ahead, you'll probably do fine. But if its the first time you've taken chemistry you will need an instructor on hand to help and explain.
