How do online courses for college work?

I was wanting to go back to school and searching for colleges in the arlington/Dallas area. I came about some colleges that allow you to take courses online, how well does this work or does it have any results?

the most important thing is to make sure whether the college is accredited or not as there are many online course scams.
next, you have to realize that while online course lets you study at your own pace, it is actually (I think) more difficult as you have to do most of the study on you own. You have to be determined and discipline.

I have had to take online courses before. They allow you to work (more or less) at your own pace. However, you have to make sure that you actually do it in the time frame given, as many people struggle to put in the time required because there is not as rigid of a structure.
