Ultrasound Tech 1st? Or Rad Tech 1st?
Question:
Answer:
I think you will have more flexibility as a Rad. Tech. You can get additional certifications with less stress and the job opportunities will be increased. My sis is a rad. tech with additional certifications in Nuclear Med., CT , mammography, and ultrasound. Good luck! (I personally went for Rad. Tech. {riding on her skirt tail} I ended up going for my degree in education. She loves her job though and I believe would reccomend that field to anyone)
Rad tech: involves radiation; moving/lifting patients (from what I've heard)
Ultrasound: no radiation; not much moving patients but might have to push the ultrasound machine around if you work in a hospital.
For many schools in California, the ultrasound program is 2 years and doesn't really allow time for a part-time job. As for job opportunity after graduation, I think it's great for both ultrasound and rad techs. Both jobs are also quite flexible since you can work shifts or registry. You can check out the Dept of Labor website for more information on these jobs.
