I got arrested for shoplifting, when i was a minor. will this affect my chances of getting into college?
Question:
also, if the incident happened when i was a minor, but my court date is after i turn 18. what happens? am i charged as a full blown adult or as still a minor. PLEASE HELP!
Answer:
It Seems your a good kid just by asking the question you know you messed up.. Look what you did was stupid your not or at least should not get a pat on the back for it, but what is done is just that, when you go into the court or even before go see your magistrate, see if he/she can get the charges dropped...
If the magistrate won't do anything , then when you go before the judge, tell him the truth , I was stupid and I afraid that this might affect my college chances.. most judges won't try and get in the way of that... And this is not a felony is should go as a misdemeanor, and since it was done before you were 18, it should be a sealed case.(not public record) Seems you have a pretty good head on your shoulders, and tossed your brains aside for a day.. But if this was your first time it should be okay.. Good Luck .. And good luck at college..
Absolutely not.
But don't turn it into a career, either or you may never finish high school, and then you really won't go to college!
What happens when you are a minor is kept private, unless it is really bad or it reacures.

These guys are not good friends to be hanging around now are they?
yep, your doomed, it's time to find a suitable cardboard box to call home
First. Shame on you. shop lifting is a misdemeanor you don't have to list it.
As for the second item. The same thing happened to my son and he was charged as an adult.
If you are trying to go to college, don't you think it is about time you grow up and become responsible?
If you don't feel it is time to change. Save your tuition money, you'll need it for bail;.
Well not to be the party damper here but I think people should be straight with the young man. It really depends on the college you apply to some colleges will not accept someone with a juvenile record someone mentioned earlier that your juvenile record does not count against you once your an adult. That is probably one of the most misunderstood laws ever. True your juvenile charges will never be brought up against you in court again as an adult but certain jobs and certain schools will check your juvenile record till you are over the age of 25. Certain jobs requiring a high security clearance will subpoena your juvenile record regardless of your age. You did something stupid if you are worried about it than when you are 25 get your juvenile record expunged. Weather or not it is sealed. It will never be truly sealed from everyone.
No....I don't think so..but you never know these days ...what you did back when you where a minor doesn't affect you getting into college...but depending on if it where a misdemeanor or a felony it may prevent you from getting a certain type of job ..
You should still be charged as a minor even though you'll be 18 before your court date. You will say yes on your application if you are charged with a felony. If not, then no.
u do not have to indicate "yes" on your apps because u have not been technically CONVICTED of a felony. u would need to plead guilty/no contest to your felony charge in order to have a conviction set against u. moreover, u have to understand that theft could be a misdemeanor charge, or it could be a felony charge--depends on how much u stole. seek a lawyer's advice pronto!
also, since u were arrested as a minor, u will be treated as a minor.
