Does a free online college or university degree granting program exist anywhere at present?

Question:
Michael Sailor of Microstrategy tried to start a free online internet university degree program back in 2000 but was unable to fund the idea due to his company's stock tanking. Has anyone accomplished his (admittedly noble) idea yet?

Answer:
Not very likely. Remember the old saying "you get what you pay for."

A university or college degree that is offered for free sounds too fishy. I am a university lecturer and I can't think of a reason why any lecturer would work for free, or any employer that would accept a degree from a free school. I can't imagine that it would be accredited if one existed.

It makes me think of the licenses to be an "ordained minister" from the back of magazines where you spend $10 and you can call yourself Reverend so-and-so of the Church of the Holy Toilet Bowl or some-such nonsense.

There are inexpensive alternatives. Try your community college or talk to the finance department about possible grants or scholarships. There is a lot of money out there for people who are serious about getting their degree.

Good luck!
