Online courses -alternative teaching license - employment prospects?
Question:
What is the likelihood that someone who satisfies this education requirement via online courses will get a teaching job, over other applicants who took traditional courses? The teaching subject is math.
Answer:
If you already have a bachelor's degree, the certification process can be a lot faster in most states. If you are seeking a math certification, you will be required to have taken or to take some math courses and your student teaching will be in a math class. This is a specialty area and a math certification will license you to teach only math. Most states actively recruit math teachers and any course that is accredited by the state should satisfy prospective employers. Be aware that school officials sometimes favor graduates from certain colleges, or programs, albeit not officially. Taking courses online does not mean that you are not taking traditional coursework, just that you are doing it in an untraditional way.
That is a very good question, and it is well written and easy to understand. Thank you. I would be interested in what people have to say about it.
