Neighbours tree hitting house and blocking light from Solar panels.?

Question:
I want to install solar panels and have a tree on my neighbours property blocking light from my roof. It is a 7m high pine tree, within 2m of my house. This tree is also blocking my gutters and hitting my roof. Can I legally ask for this tree to be removed?

Answer:
Try ringing your insurance company; if the roots and the rest of the tree risk damaging your house, they'll know how serious the risk is (its their job to do risk assessment.) Plus they'll have a legal department to advise on what your rights are and how to go about this.
I think the biggest problem is approaching your neighbours without starting a feud! You could also try Citizens Advice, they deal with this kind of problem.
explain to the neighbours what you want to do and the problems the tree will cause im sure they will hack it down at least some for you
Yes you can any thing that imbinges onto your property can be removed. Very inconsiderate of your neighbour anyhow to let this tree interfer with your property.

Speak to your neighbour and discuss the matter first. No point in any ill feeling over this issue as you live in close proximity of each other.
You will have to explain the situation to your neighbours and see what they say.
But you have the right to trim any brances or obstruction that comes into your garden, and that is trim, not cut down.
If your neigbours say no to removing the offending tree, then your stuck with it I am afraid.
If the tree is overhanging your property, you can inform your neighbor that you will be cutting down the offending part of the tree. If the tree does not overhang the property but is tall and thus blocks out sun light you will need to discuss with your neighbor and if you get no progress from them unfortunately you will need to contact your local council planning office and start a proceeding against him.
If you are in the US: it is ok to cut the tree where it crosses your property line, as long as it is done in a manner that will not harm the tree.

Talk with your neighbor- maybe they will be open to the idea of it being removed- after the fact you can save the pieces for fire wood once it's dry!
Even if the encroachment on your property is corrected, the tree height will still interfere with sun hitting the solar panels. And the taller the tree gets, the worse it will be.
