Can we be like Superman?

Question:
You know how Superman has powers because, he's in this part of the solar system with the sun? Well, do you guys think that maybe if we were to travel somewhere in a distant galaxy we would have amazing powers like that. I realize he's fictional, but its still nice to think about it, I mean there are a lot of things we don't know about the universe yet.

Answer:
Superman came from the planet Krypton which was as big as Jupiter.Jupiter is 500 times the size of Earth,so the gravity would be 500 times more than that of Earth's.So its pretty obvious superman can jump 500 times higher,he can have a power which is 500 times more.According to me,yes,if there is a life form like Krypton, yes, superman is possible. As for us if there is a planet or any body outside earth 500 times smaller and we can breathe in there we can be a superman for the people there. If any particle from earth is brought to us there we will feel weak, just like superman feels to Krypton. Now you get it!!!Nice question.Superman continuously gets the radiation of Krypton and so he turns into super man or else he would just be a normal guy.
yes
yes there arent alot of thinks we know about the universe. but there is no way. sorry. but any sort of radiation like what would kill us, not mutate us. mutation usually is not a benefit, it usually will cause death. evolution is different however, and that happens over many years.

but it would be nice to think about that. keep an open mind i say. ide rather be happy believing in something that might not happen, than looking at all the facts and being depressed.
No way. You are what you are no matter where you go. Even if you were to go to a planet with less gravity, where you could jump a hundred feet into the air, you would still be no stronger than here on earth. If you were to go to a plenty where the gravity is greater, you would put on more muscle mass, but not to any extraordinary degree.
Very true!
Well superman is a fictional character. so yea i guess.

But in reality no.
definitely no..
but anyone can be like him by heart
Um, the thing you have to understand about comic-book characters is that while some of them have *really plausible* origins and/or abilities, for the most part things get *exaggerated* in order to tell a good story. Superman is no different. :)

Do "krypton-like" planets exist out there? Yes, they do, and as recently as eight months ago in _Science News_ it was suggested that these planets, these high-gravity terrestrial planets orbiting M-Class Red Dwarf stars were a dime a dozen in our interstellar neck of the woods and the most stable and *likely* candidates so far for supporting life.

So.if a human-like person from such a world came to earth, he'd be like Superman, right? Ehh, not really. Ok, working backwards...

--The gravity well issue. Assuming for the moment that he came from a world of not more than 15 times earth gravity (seeing as how 16-18 g's tend to crush brain tissue inside the bones of vertebrate skulls), while it is true that he'd be stronger than most of us, it wouldn't last. For starters, if he landed here on earth as a toddler, just knowing how to walk, *he'd NEVER get any stronger than that by growing up in our relative micro-gravity*. In fact, he'd weaken from a lack of gravity stressing his muscles and skeleton, and might well end up unhealthy and *weaker* than we are by adulthood. And this does NOT even touch atmospheric density issues (would he suffocate from our atmosphere being too thin, or too devoid of oxygen, or would he just *explode* from our "air" being no different from *vacuum* to his flesh?).

Seriously. Our moon has one-sixth of earth's gravity. There is no breathable air there, and we can't stick around too long there because even if we had enough life support, our muscles and bones would go to crap under that micro-gravity.but until they did, yes, we'd be leaping around like kangaroos. :P

--The solar metabolism issue. Ok, whatever is going on in your "real-life from krypton" person, would have to be much *much* more efficient than the mere 6% efficiency rate our plants have with photosynthesis in order to even *sustain* our would be alien, never mind improve him. Having said that, there is a way.

But it would involve a organelle in the person's cells that would be more of a *radio-plast* than a photoplast, meaning instead of using the metallo-protein chlorophyll, it would have to use a chemical cousin with a radio-isotope capable of *radio-isomer cascades* after the manner of our element hanfium, which would intensify the effects of incoming solar radiation (ultraviolet and ionized radiation from solar flares mainly) some 30-60 fold.

Combine that with a sun maybe fifty to one hundred times brighter than normal, and maybe that *might* even compensate from the negative gravity well issues, but.

In the process. You would have someone with a radio-isomer cascade going on in every cell of his body, 24/7/365, that would be 50-100 times more intense than what he's been genetically engineered to be capable of back home. So yeah, we are talking about a metabolism cranking out up to a maximum of *six thousand times* that 6% efficiency of your average photosynthetic plant here on Earth...

That strikes me less a Superman and more as a walking, talking Chernobyl ready to *blow up* and be the Living Dirty Bomb.

And for what? Somebody who is going to be, at best, *maybe* as powerful as the old-school, 1940s version of Superman.

The one who had to *leap* over tall buildings because he *couldn't* fly. :P

I'm just saying..
if we some kind mutation i guess but thats fantastic 4 maybe the "other lifeforms"are out there with those powers but most likely not us
No, we will never have powers like superman. If you consider biological entities, most of out physical manipulation powers are somewhat mundane. Amongst the more exotic abilities, dolphins and bats have sonar, cats can leap up five foot fenses (and more in some cases), dogs can sniff out drugs hidden in a tank of gasoline, electric eels can shock things close to them, cheetahs can run 80 mph for short periods of time, and chimps can easily pull 1000lbs with one hand.

Humans have big giant brains and a intrinsic interest to make things better and more powerful (themsleves especially) and Superman is a manifestation of that want. Physically, we are amongst the weaker animals on this planet and because of our big giant brains, we realize this. But it's because of this, that we have big giant brains.
hi there sorry to appoint you!No you cant be like superman cause he is like a action figure from someones mind.So start to find your own innerself and work with it for the best you will also find that there will be others who would like to become like you because to them you would be like their superman!Everybody has their wanna b like person or action figure so go out there and work on yours have fun and find yourself!
You can if you are accustomed to a gravity of more or less than 37 times our gravity, and if your accustomed to weight lifting there that are just feather-weighted here...
if you depart from your low-level literal mode of thinking, you can and we all can be a Superman in our own unique ways.

But if you'd like to stick to the literal sense... no. We can't play like God. We can't be perfect. That's why we were created as "HUMANS." We can't know absolutely everything! We can't reach absolutely every portion of the universe! We can't fathom every possible thing that God has created! We can't have all the powers that be! We are humans and it was never our task to DOMINATE the entire galaxy!
