Grounding solar panel frame?

Question:
Can I use ONLY the grounding outlet of a three-conductor outlet in order to ground the frame of a solar panel? This would mean the use of just the grounding pin of a three-prong plug.

Answer:
You should run it to a driven ground rod or equivalent, and use a size commensurate with the probable current expected. I used #8.
You should use a permanent ground that can't be unplugged. You can use a clamp to connect to a cold water pipe if it is iron or copper.
What is the reason for grounding the frame? if it is for lightning protection I think that grounding it to an existing outlet would be a bad idea.
