Would you like to see solar panels on the White House roof and other building in DC that were amenable to it?
Question:
Answer:
Yes, that is a great idea!
I heard a guy interviewed recently who heads a company making solar panels with a new more economical manufacturing process. But he said they don't really sell any in the US - most of it goes to Europe and Japan. Those places have more tax incentives for alternative energy and higher fuel taxes making solar more attractive. Not much market in the US which is a shame.
I'm putting an addition on my house soon and I think it would be great to put a solar panel on a flat roof section we'll have. But the cost is probably too prohibitive.
I would love to see that, but I don't think their budies in the energy corporations would appreciate that much.
yes, I think its just good policy in general.
yes because solar panels help the environment.
No. Solar panels are not cost-effective. A solar phototovoltaic system costs about $10 per watt to install, and each watt of installed capacity can produce a maximum of 2 kWh of energy per year, which is worth about 25 cents. It would be considerably more effective to spend the money paying down part of the national debt.
This would be a great way to promote alternative energy, but with one catch...
The White House will forever need a back up source besides solar pannels. All the equipment and technology used by the President and Secret Service needs to be running at all times. Therefore, I doubt they ever get it completely off power lines.
But solar pannels on the White House, I'm all for it. The Capitol, as well. And all their private homes and estates. If they're pushing for it so hard, they need to prove they can do it themselves.
