Is solar energy a perfect replacement for fossil fuels as source of energy? why?

Question:

Answer:
No, it's not a perfect replacement as it is only available while the sun shines. It has to be backed up with other forms of power generation such as hydroelectric or conventional coal powered electricity.
A perfect replacement in countries where it is available is 'hot rock' geothermal power generation, which uses heat from naturally spontaneous radioactive decay of elements in rocks produced heat that can be harnessed into steam for power generation.
It is not perfect, clouds can prevent solar energy from reaching the earth. What if it is a raining season somewhere for months and no sunshine? No power.
yes conserves the envirnment and it doesn't have a gross smell
yes,and there other ways to replace fossil fuels
or else we are gonna run out of them
why do you think they are getting expensive
there other ways of replacinggs them
wind power,solar,alot
because if we dont were not gonna have gasoline for cars, light for houses,we need to start changing our source if energy
No it can only supplement it , solar energy does not produce enough power for our needs.
Chris.
yes and no... Solar energy is a good investment, almost like buying a house after time it will pay of in a couple years ago. It a big initial investment, that most young couple purchasing there first house couldn't afford. It would be a good wedding present for a newly wed couple. Also, the PGE gives good money back incentives for these services used. Wind Mills are good too, but too big and takes up much room.
You can calculate the energy put out in square meters by the sun. Its been done, and the answer varies by latitude.

The answer is no. Determine how many square meters of sunlight you would need outside your window per hour to replace a gallon of gas and you will (probably) find that the space and time required is exorbiant.

"Perfect" replacements for energy sources that have taken millions of years for nature to produce will not be found.

Imperfect replacements, coupled with social change, will certainly work.
NO WAY - But everyone is missing the point of why.

We all know how fossil fuels cause the global warming - greenhouse gases hold the heat in that is supposed to be reflected off, which is causing all kinds of trouble.

Do you see the irony here? If we stop all fossil fuel usage today and replace it with solar panels, the solar panels will be absorbing an incredible amount of energy that is supposed to be reflected back out into space. Not only will we be absorbing heat, we will be doing it much more efficiently.

So - let's use wind turbines, huh? Do you really believe that when you extract that much energy out of the weather it's not going to have some sort of impact on the climate?

There is a very important Law called Entropy. It is a Law we have ignored so long, we are in serious trouble. One of our biggest problems is dictated by Entropy. The more 'order' you try to have over a situation, the more 'disorder' you will cause.

Entropy states we are doomed - all we can do is slow down the effects of Entropy with the hopes of getting ourselves to another planet before this planet is a burnt out match. Then we can start over again and burn out another planet. Nothing is free, and human life is especially expensive.
solar panels require alot of space of a very small amount of energy. Personally, i prefer wind power. Its cheap to build, lasts a lifetime, little maintenance and can provide electricity to over 3,000 homes with just one turbine. Hydro power is the same way, but can cause proplems with river ecosystems and the avalability of strong water currents isnt that great.
For electricity 1 x 1sq metre PV pannel makes 100watts in good sunlight not much since a house uses at least 5000 watts a day. and at about USD500 each they are very costly.

Solar hot water systems can pay for themselves within a few years if you are very handy you could make and install a system for a quater of the price and make your money back in a couple of years.

Before getting into solar start using energy efficent products and turn stuff off completly when not usng it around the home this will substantially reduce your power consumption once you have that down to a minimum you can consider solar or wind
