Florida has lots of sun, so I think it would be VERY efficient, and therefore cost effective!
Florida is in the Tropic of Cancer: perennial summers. In an environment like that, the cost factor is in the initial purchase and installation of the equipment. Once that is set up the maintenance on most solar equipment is minimal.
