What causes solar activity?
Question:
Answer:
Very simply put:
Radiation and convection within the core of the sun causes temperature and magnetic field fluctuations on the surface of the sun, or photosphere. These fluctuations can allow significant amounts of material to escape, called coronal mass ejections. Sunspots can form on the photosphere as well, and the widely varying magnetic fields associated with them can cause large outbursts of ionizing radiation and radio waves.
