Please: is solar power an asset, and Eco friendly as one would believe?
Question:
at present I have solid fuel, and it is very cosey and warm but the green house gases is now my concern, I will change my system if it is efficient and clean.
Answer:
solar panel is very clean. all u do is feed water through pipes and the sun heats it thats all.
don't let bush hear you!
solar is a great way to get energy cheap. The cost will be shared by you and your local council. Generally you will get a grant for half the coest. you ought to be able to run your house on 16000 of stuff, so 8000 you pay. I am going to do it as soon as I have the cash, no mre bills!!
I have solar panels on my roof and have not used my oil boiler for hot water for about two months now.
I believe solar power is expensive to set up (the panels were already there when I bought my house) but I think that it could possibly be worth the expense. However, you have to have a suitable South facing roof. Don't forget wind power also. Might be worth considering a wind generator too.
Solar is very clean.
Actually I know folk who made their own solar water heating system by painting old radiators black, putting them in a glass fronted box, and feeding water through them.
That's free hot water during the summer months and during the winter he can still get some free hot water. He just turns on the boiler to make up the deficit - obviously cheaper than before.
solar power generates electricity via silicone panels. yes its expensive, yes its prohibitive, but is it worth it? not really... given the cost of equipment you could buy electricity at the going rate, and stil not be out of pocket for many years.
the hot water thing (isnt solar power) its radiation and convection. the sun radiates light, which is converted into heat by convection as teh cold water and hot swap places.
and the main problems is that most houses require 240v to run... an average solar panel outputs 1.2v. and the current is milliamps. get a car alternator, put a big fan blade on the rotor, and make a rotating holder, so it laways points into/or away from the wind. (alternators can charge in either direction)
on average an alternator can produce upto 45amps at 13.8v, which is 12v nominal. use a split charging system, 2on and 2 off... it wont produce lots of power, but it will run pumps, (for your hot water) itll run lights, radios etc etc... but its all a bit dependent on weather...
I would fit it in an instant problem is planning permission I live in a conservation area
belive it or not the regulations forbid anything which impacts the local visual aspects
