well solar energy is actualy a tipe of radiation wich is emitted in several lenght waves. the energy we receive it can be transformed to calorical form. and that`s another story!

Solar energy is caused by nuclear fusion.
While light elements such as Hydrogen getting too close to each other the nuclear forces will act and fuse them to make a new element(better to say nucleus).The new nucleus will have a lighter weight than the total of the two light joining elements; the mass is converted to energy(the famous equation of einstein: E=mc2).
Assume that 4 Hydrogens are converted to make 1 Helium nucleus which is lighter than 4 Hydrogens .
we receive this energy on earth in electromagnetic form(like visible light and other wave lenghts such as UV and etc.)
We can also convert the sunlight energy to electical form by using photovoltaic cells.
