When's the next Total Solar Eclipse for Minnesota?

Question:

Answer:
Hi Diana!

The next total eclipse of the sun in Minnesota will be September 14, 2099.

Most of the state will be in the path of totality that morning, with the exception of the far north (Duluth will see only a partial eclipse) and the southwest corner. Minneapolis-St. Paul sees the entire total eclipse.

Of course, you might not want to wait 92 years to see the eclipse, so here are some other suggestions:

1) There is a total eclipse across much of the US in 2017, on August 21st of that year. You could drive to Nebraska or northern Missouri to see that one in just ten years. There's another in Detroit and in southern Illinois and Indiana April 8, 2024.

2) The next partial eclipse of the sun in Minnesta will be at sunset of May 20th, 2012, when as much as 70% of the solar disc will be covered just as the sun is setting that evening. There'll be a similar sundown partial eclipse October 23, 2014.

3) Perhaps you'd like a total eclipse of the MOON instead. Minnesota will see the beginning of totality the early morning of Tuesday August 28th, with the ghostly face of the darkened moon fading into the growing dawn that morning.

A better view for Minnesotans will be the lunar eclipse of Wednesday, February 20, 2008. The partial phase begins at 7:43 p.m. Central Time that evening, with totality starting at 9 p.m.
None before 2050. See the source for some nearby ones though. The 2017 eclipse will be total in Nebraska and only partial in Minnesota.
To expand on campbelp2002's answer, the next total solar eclipse in Minnesota is predicted for September 14, 2099.
Here's a calculator that will list all the solar eclipses for your location. Just plug in a city and a date range and it will do the rest.
