NASA Confirms Solar Storm Near 2012, is it something to do with the end of the world?
Question:
Answer:
It has to do with the Mayan calendar cycle ending in 2012 and numerous books published recently about the end of the world in 2012
read the following USA Today article link cited below:
Nah don't stress we will be fine :)
No. We have been through millions of cycles of the Sun.
No. In any event, the prediction is dicey; we can't predict the weather here five years in advance, let alone on the sun.
It might be the end of the world for your cellphone, computer, satellite tv, and gps. We've survived without technology before, like in 1958 when the last solar storm arrived.
The sun goes through 11 year cycles of activity. 2012 is simply the middle of the next Solar Maximum. There will be more sunspots than at present, resulting in more flares.
That is all. You are putting science up against superstition and coming out with nonsense.
Solar storm activity waxes and wanes every 11 years.
Absolutely harmless. Unless your a satellite or a power grid operator :D
Maybe not the end of the World, just the world as we know it. At worst, we may experience a pole shift. At the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012, our sun is due for its 11 year cyclical pole shift. This time around, due to the influence of a planetary alignment; our Earth may follow suit. NASA has also confirmed the migration of Earth's north magnetic pole to the South Atlantic as well as a diminishing magnetic field.
Geologist Gregg Branden gave a lecture back in 1996. He spoke of how ancient traditions and beliefs, of the coming new age, can be explained in the language of modern science. Granted, it may not be "proof positive", but he does show there may definitely be something to Mayan predictions about a catastrophe (pole shift) as well as life ending as we know it.

In his two part video, Branden explores scientific studies that support ancient prophesies. Unfortunatly, he does not go into great detail in terms of the Astronomy and root causes of the prophesies.
Thanks for the link .
If the loss of electrical power for days, months or years is the end of the world for you, then probably YES. but basically, thats basically what will happen.
There is a mathematical relationship between the 11 -year solar storm cycles and worldwide flu epidemics, apparently.
The sun goes through solar spot activity around every 11yrs so since we've obviously been through more than a few I wouldn't worry.
