HOW many planets are there in our solar system (read on)?

Question:
Well, they just said that Pluto is not a planet.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060824/ap_o...

Do you agree with that?

Answer:
I guess just the 8 now.
im not sure people have been saying this for a long time
1 less now. Pluto is outta here.
I heard they already discovered two more beyond pluto. One is going to be called Xena and the other Im not sure about.
there could be about 12-14 planets if they drop Pluto and add the new ones like Ceres.
I still don't think anybody honestly knows how many planets are in the solar system.
Pluto has always been a planet since I was in school and always was for years and years, that's what we where taught. So yes it should always be planet number 9, no matter what size it is.
Doesn't make any difference whether I agree or not. I'm assuming that the astronomers know what they're doing and are not just playing ego games with each other!
there are nine planets. a way to remember them are...
My Very Excellant Mother Just Seved Us Nine Pizzas
they discovered three more planets now...xena,charon and one more i dunno what its called...and they havnt confirmed that pluto is not a planet(i think)so even if pluto is not a planet we'll have 11 planets...it sounds weird after learnin that there are 9 planets!
As you have said - 8 (as of this morning Pluto has been demoted).

It's hard to get used to this change, but the reasoning was that if we keep Pluto in the club, we should include Charon and Xena, and there are more candidates.

I've heard about adding a new classification item, like a "small planet" (not an asteroid!). It still has to be spherical in shape. So Pluto-Charon system, a couple of asteroid, and Xena would we put into this category
There are now 8 Planets (MVEMJSUN) and at least 4 Dwarf Planets (Inc. Pluto).

I hear Dorling Kindersly and several other big time non-fiction publishers aren't that happy, as they now have to re-write all their solar-system and planet related books, CD roms and other related material.

I personally think its crazy - they should have like grade 1 planets (discovered before 1950 maybe)which would include pluto, and then grade 2 planets (discovered between 1950 and 2050) etc - that makes more sense...
