Solar heating in all it's forms is the best.it's clean, cheaper and environmentally safe!!
Given the option..why choose something else?

I know that here in Texas, we have to COOL the pools in Summer by using a pump to spray a fountain of fine water drops to increase evaporative cooling. But in cooler climates it seems like a good idea to me. Solar water heating panels are much lower tech and cheaper that photoelectric panels. They can even be homemade without too much trouble. You still need electricity to run the pump though, unless you are lucky enough to have a pool at the top of a hill and could put the panels on the hillside below the pool to let natural convection do the pumping for you. But natural convection would be too weak for filtration so you need a filtration pump anyway.
Any source which does not emit harmful emmisions is good.
With a solar pool heated pool, you can enjoy your pool for 8-10 months each year. That's triple the expected swim time with a non-heated pool and best of all there's no costly gas or electric bills to pay. As far as I know there are no cons to having a solar heated pool. It's good for the enviornment as well as anything that takes solar energy.
Coming from a state where sunshine is as much of a problem as it is a blessing, Solar heating water makes sense. By having the paneling systems mounted on the South and western portions of the roof they help maintain the house temperature as well year round. We actually have to shut the heaters off during the summer otherwise it becomes like swimming in bath water. All in all I would encourage the solar heated pool, and even reccomend solar water heaters to supplement ones own hot water heater for inside water.
Here is what I know... my apartment advertise that they have one heated pool and one solar heated pool. The solar heated pool just means that the sun light hits the water and makes it a little warmer... not much.
that is what i grew up with and i think that cool water pools are the best... i hate jumping into a luke warm pool!

Solar heating is excellent. When I was growing up, our pool was solar heating much in the same way those tankless water heaters work now. My grandfather ran copper tubing all over the roof of the garage and the water went from the filter to the tubing to the pool. It worked really well, and was very friendly for the environment.
They do warm up twice as fast.
excellent idea and 2 schools of thought. 1-you can do the whole solar panel with plumbing routed through it. good investment and excellent idea.
2-solar blanket, cut to fit your pool. less expensive and less effective but still very good to have. does a good job of warming your pool, may prevent some evaporation,(less water use) rools up on a reel.
Solar heated pools work so great and they don't harm the environment one bit. Love 'em!

I LOVED OURS (WHEN WE USED TO HAVE A POOL). IT'S INCREDIBLE HOW MUCH HEAT AN INEXPENSIVE SOLAR COVER CAN PRODUCE. OUR POOL (IN MINNESOTA) DID NOT HAVE A HEATER. THE YEAR WE BOUGHT A SOLAR COVER REALLY EXTENDED HOW MUCH WE COULD USE THE POOL. AND SAVING ENERGY AT THE SAME TIME!
