yes they work don,t know the exact speed but it is before you can see it flash if it is adjusted right
just keep the screen clean
i use mine when i can the only time i have a problem with them is when working in a hole where the sensor doesn,t pick up enough light
then i have to go to a standard one
They work and they go dark in less than tenths of a second but I think I heard some guys still don't like them.

yes they work and get dark fast enough to protect your eyes.
but they have an adjustable lense (darkness) and you can set it yourself which allows you to set lighter (so you can see easier) and may not provide enough protection if its not set dark enough for your situation. I believe usually you should have it set at '10' or higher, harder to see - but safer and you could get used to it and still weld good with practice
