Solar Panel Technology costs a lot in the UK?
Question:
or do they really cost that much to produce?
Visit crete, spain, greece or any hot med/european country and you'll find the smallest shed has a massive panel and capacitor. But seemingly not the means to pay as much as we do.
Answer:
Most of the solar panels you see around the Med are solar heating, warming hot water. The "capacitor" is the header tank.
You can DIY these in the UK, or get reasonably priced versions. the more you pay the better. The best should be integrated with new build and heat pumps ( then that saves on air con too)
Photo-voltaics are not common. They are quite expensive to produce, especially good quality. Depending on your life-style they do not produce much useful energy when you want it. They are very good if you are "off the grid" and only have a few low energy lights and a pc.
It is far cheaper, more efficient and probably better environmentally to switch to a renewable energy supplier.

so what is your question ?
solar panels, especially high quality ones capable of powering a home, are precision instruments that cost alot. but the idea is that over the course of several years you make the money back by not paying for electricity
How can you save on gas bills? At present, the cost is such that it will take half a lifetime to recoup it in electricity savings. Like so much else, if you can wait a bit you'll see prices fall at the same time as elec. prices rise - so you'll save even more!
