Do solar fish really work in your swimming pool?

Question:
I have a 33ft round pool that is 54 inches high. The solar cover is a pian in the butt. Don't have a heater - does the solar fish really work? I live in PA so it is not constant sun and heat.
Thanks!

Answer:
I used solar fish in my 18'AG pool last year and I thought they worked reasonably well. Not quite as efficient as a solar cover but a whole lot easier to use. If you don't have a lot of sunshine directly on your pool you won't see a lot of heat gain with either a blanket or a solar fish. IMHO the biggest reason to use either is to reduce the heat loss at night due to evaporation and cooling from the night air. Since I turn my filter off at night and there are no swimmers disturbing the water I think the solar fish work very well for that. During the day I recommend turning the water inlets down so the surface stays reasonably calm. The main drawback I've found to the fish is if you have a lot of wind over the pool disturbing the water surface it will reduce the effectiveness. Happy swimming!
sure does but make sure u have plenty of sun light other wise it may not pay for its self
ya but u gotta have lots of sunlight
