Gas hot water verse solar hot water?
Question:
Gas is cheaper to install, and the system lasts longer with less maintenance. Solar is dearer, but has a rebate.Solar has a life of approx 15 years? I'm in Qld. thanks
YOU GOING TO NEED BOTH
YOU SEE THE SOLAR IS THE BEST TO GO ESPECIALLY FOR THE COST/BUT SOLAR IS NOT ENOUGH THE WINTER MONTHS SO YOU GOING TO NEED A BACK UP
YOU CAN USE THE GAS AS BACK UP ONLY IF NECESSARY
With a rebate, the solar heater will pay itself back.
You always need the gas system to top up the heat, so to speak. But especially in summer, the solar heater will take a huge chunk out of your gasbill.
If you get a rebate, do it. It will pay itself back.
Without the rebate, it's almost break-even (pays itself back in lots of years).
If you install an online grid solar power system you can actually sell back power to the power company. That said - In the Philippines I had a solar water heating system. It worked very well. It was lines that ran back and forth on the roof like you would install solar panels. Old, but it worked great and it was free!
Solar hot water
I recommend air condition hot gas for heater.
The few customers I have that have a tankless gas water heater, loves them.
Ol' Randy is building his second new house and his putting in a tankless gas heater. He put one in his first new house he had built about 3 years ago.
I'm sure I'm behind on solar statistics by now, but solar for hot water isn't worth the investment.
They're good for pre heating. but if you are thinking of tankless, there is no reason to pre heat the water.
The solar water heater systems in my area have electric water heaters also. Again, all the solar does is pre heat the water before it goes through the normal water heater.
I'd stay away from solar. A lot of plumbing, and money is involved.
