Does anyone own (or know about) a Silva Solar Charger 1 ?

Question:
Im going on an expedition and want a solar battery recharger that is light and portable. the Silva Solar Charger looks great. . .

Does anyone know if you can roll it up, or if it has a protective housing??

Answer:
I assume you want the Silva to charge a GPS, since you're going on a long trip. In my experience, the Silva works ok, it is a little more likey to be damaged through normal wear and tear than I would like, but such is life.

If you are looking for something to charge other things (cell phone, MP3 player, camera, some GPS), I would check out the Solio. Because it is much more durable than the Silva products, I use it for mountain running when I am out for 10+ hours with my iPod. I can leave it open in the mesh pocket of my camelbak and have it bounce around all day and be fine.

However, it does NOT do AA/AAA batteries, only things that can be charged through a USB Port/Plug, so if your GPS isnt a Garmin Forerunner or a Garmin Edge, you don't really have that as an option.
